Omega-3 Index
The Omega-3 Index is a blood test that measures the amount of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA+DHA) in red blood cell membranes as a percent of total fatty acids. It is a long-term and stable marker of omega-3 status, and it reflects tissue levels of
EPA+DHA.
An Omega-3 Index between 8% and 12% is associated with the lowest risk for death from heart disease. A higher Omega-3 Index may also
lead to improved brain, eye and joint health.
